Donald Spence Hicks

Born in Takoma Park, Maryland, Don moved to Elkton with his family in 1955 when his parents, Ralph and Ellanor Hicks, returned to their hometown to establish Hicks Home for Funerals. He graduated from Elkton High School in 1968, went on to attend Harford Community College, and later earned his degree, cum laude, from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1971.

Licensed as a mortician in both Maryland and Delaware, Don has been deeply involved in the Elkton community through a variety of organizations. He has been a dedicated member of the Singerly Fire Company since 1972, serving in many roles, including five years as Chief of the Department and several years as President of the Board of Directors. In addition, he is a member and past president of the Elkton Rotary Club, a past president of the United Way of Cecil County, and serves on the boards of the Elkton Alliance and the Cecil County Electrical Board.

Don and his wife, Judy, are active members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he serves as a Minister of the Eucharist. Together, they have two daughters, Catherine Hicks Evinski and Kristen Hicks Altemus, and five grandchildren: Julianna, Charlotte, and Helena Evinski, and Dominick and Eden Erisman.

Kristen Hicks Altemus

Kristen continues the family tradition established by her grandfather, Ralph, and her father, Don. After graduating from St. Mark’s High School, she attended the University of Delaware, where she earned degrees in women’s studies and history. She has been part of the funeral home since 1995 and, in 2002, enrolled in the mortuary science program at the Community College of Baltimore County in Catonsville. She graduated summa cum laude in 2005 and is a licensed mortician in both Maryland and Delaware.

In addition to her work at the funeral home, Kristen serves as the superintendent of Gilpin Manor Memorial Park and helps families select monuments for their loved ones through Gilpin Manor Memorials.

Kristen lives in Chesapeake City, Maryland with her husband, Brian, and her children, Dominick and Eden Erisman.

Russell Andrew Sliger

Born and raised in Harford County, Maryland, Russ Sliger is a graduate of North Harford High
School. Following high school, he attended Lynchburg College in Virginia, where he earned a degree in communications. After spending time traveling, he returned to his studies and enrolled in the Mortuary Science program at the Community College of Baltimore County in Catonsville.

Russ has been a licensed funeral director since 2005.

Judith M. Hicks

Account Manager

Judith has served as the Account Manager for Hicks Home for Funerals since 1994 and is the loving wife to Donald Hicks for over 55 years. She is the mother of two daughters, Catherine and Kristen, and a devoted grandmother to five grandchildren.

As a vital part of the organization, Judith plays a key role in its operations, providing organization, guidance, and steady support that helps keep everything and everyone running smoothly.

Morgan Moyer

Assistant Account Manager

Morgan graduated from St. Mark’s High School in 2009 and continued her education at Schilling-Douglas. She currently serves as the Assistant Account Manager at Hicks, where she is recognized for her attention to detail, professionalism, and commitment to supporting both
families and colleagues.

Morgan lives in Clayton, Delaware with her husband, Bryan, and their three children, Owen, Lulu, and Grant.

Rachel Dolor

Administrative Assistant

Rachel graduated from Rising Sun High School in 2009 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2013. She currently serves as the Administrative Assistant at Hicks Home for Funerals, where she supports daily operations with organization, creativity, and attention to detail.
