About Us

After graduating from Echols Mortuary College in Philadelphia, Ralph Hicks, began his career with

Ruck Funeral Home in the Baltimore / Washington area. After several years, he and his wife, Ellanor returned to their hometown of Elkton to establish their own funeral home. Deeply devoted to his family, profession, and community, Ralph made it his lifelong mission to help make Elkton a wonderful place to live and raise a family. He approached his work with compassion, and an understanding of the financial challenges families often face after the loss of a loved one, whether expected or sudden. That same commitment continues to guide the generations who have followed.

In 1965, Donald Hicks joined the funeral home and later attended the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, graduating with honors in 1971. As a second-generation funeral director, he was inspired by the example set by his father. Continuing the family legacy, Kristen Hicks Altemus became the third generation to enter the profession. After earning degrees in history and women’s studies from the University of Delaware, she graduated summa cum laude from Catonsville Community College in 2005 and became a licensed mortician.

Located at the corner of Bow and Stockton Streets in Elkton, the funeral home has proudly served the community for more than seventy years.
