Thomas J. Newlin, Jr.

Thomas J. Newlin, Jr., age 78, of Chesapeake City, MD, died peacefully Sunday, April 27, 2014. Born in Chester, PA on June 6, 1935, he was the son of the late Thomas Sr. and Ruby Curry Newlin.

Mr. Newlin retired from the Cecil County Board of Education where he had been a music teacher and Band Director at Rising Sun High School. He was a lifelong member of Bible Presbyterian Church, Chester, PA. Mr. Newlin participated in the Senior Olympics playing table tennis, enjoyed traveling to Florida and the Jersey Shore, and collecting character watches. For more than 25 years he brought joy to patients in hospitals and assisted care facilities, entertaining them by playing the piano.

Survivors include his sons, Thomas J. Newlin and wife, Jennifer Papp Newlin, College Park, MD and Theodore J. Newlin, Chesapeake City, MD and grandchildren, Tyler J., Zachary T., Caitlyn F. and Benjamin A. Newlin.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Newlin was preceded in death by his wife, Judith, and his son, Timothy J. Newlin.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton St., Elkton, MD 21921. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery, Chesapeake City, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Newlin may be made to BSO/OrchKids, in care of the funeral home.
