Russell H. Shephard

Russell H. Shephard, age 81, of Elkton, MD, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014. Born in North Carolina on November 23, 1932, he was the son of the late Walter and Rosie Philips Shephard.

Mr. Shephard retired after 43 years of service from General Motors Corporation, Wilmington, DE, where he was an assembler/maintenance laborer. An avid gardener, he also enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and reading.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Frances Fink Shephard; children, Susan Martin, Tallahassee, FL, Steven Shephard, Gallatin, TN, Sharon Smith, Sandra Berry, both of Elkton, MD, and Randy Shephard, Frederick, MD; siblings, Gladys Stanley, Wilkesboro, NC, Maggie Shore, Mary Love, Bill Shephard, all of Millers Creek, NC, Vine Shephard, Conover, NC, Jim Shephard, Peach Bottom, PA, and Grace Brown, Chapel Hill, NC; 15 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Shephard was preceded in death by two brothers.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, January 27, 2014, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton St., Elkton, MD, where visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Union, MD.
