Winfield Jacob Poore, 90, of Elkton, MD passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Born in Elkton on January 23, 1935, he was the son of the late William Harry and Edith Mae Holmes Poore.
Mr. Poore was a retired operating engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, serving for 39 years. Before his retirement, he served honorably in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War. Family was the center of Mr. Poore's life, and he greatly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. In his earlier years, he was an avid bowler, enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, and was an active member of Maranatha Baptist Church, Elkton, MD.
Survivors include his children, Diane Marie Gray (Paul, "David"), and Carol Redford (Frank), Earleville, MD, and Wesley Jacob Poore (Hope), Elkton, MD; grandchildren, Jennifer, Karen, Philip, Eric, Jimmy, Ashlea, Chassidy, Bobby, Jake, Makayla, and Jeffrey; great-grandchildren, Paige, Connor, Kelli, Ellie, Wyatt, Hope, Amelia, Milton, Tara, Tayson, Ziva, Jaxson, Jamison, and Julian; great-great-granddaughter, Khaleesi; brothers, Kennard Poore, NC, Harry "Sonny" Poore, North East, MD, and Richard Poore, Bayview, MD.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Poore was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Shirley Marie Chadwick Poore; daughter, Dorothy Ann Poore; son, Jeffrey W. Poore; brothers, Leonard Poore and Danny Poore, North East, MD; and sisters, Helen Austin, DE; Betty Stafford CA; Doris Reed, Vietta Chadwick, and Frances Blankenship, all of Elkton, MD.
Funeral service will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM. Interment with military honors will be in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, Elkton, MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Maranatha Baptist Church at 3141 Old Elk Neck Road, Elkton, MD 21921.
