William “Mac” B. McElroy III, 77, of Elkton, MD passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026. Born in Wilmington, DE on November 30, 1948, he was the son of the late William B. McElroy II and Harriet Baker McElroy.

Mr. McElroy was a retired carpenter and proud Army veteran. He was a longtime member of the Delaware Pigeon Club and the Delaware Setter & Pointer Club. Mr. McElroy had a deep love for animals, especially horses, pigeons, and dogs. He also ran a horse rescue, giving horses a safe place and a second chance. Mr. McElroy was also an avid Jerry Garcia fan.

Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years; Gertrude “Trudie” Segers McElroy, children; Renee Wick (Ted), Denver, CO and Laura Peirson (Jim O’Donnell), Plano, TX, grandchildren; Danielle Wick and Andrew Wick, and siblings; Connie Kolasinski, Shay Lewis and Carol Curland.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister; Barbara McElroy.

Funeral service will be held 2 PM, Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear, DE 19701. Interment will be in Delaware Verterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
