Willett Rupert Smith, 96, of Elkton, MD passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Born in Pleasant Hill, MD on January 5, 1928, he was the son of the late Mancill Leslie Smith, Sr. and Anna Zenobia Willett.
A WWII U.S. Army veteran having served as an auto mechanic from 1946-1948, Mr. Smith then retired after 48 years as a shop foreman from Elkton Auto Parts. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, and along with his late wife he enjoyed and loved training and racing their standardbred trotters and pacers.
Survivors include his many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Irene Dvorak Smith; and siblings, Mancill L. Smith, Jr. and Zenobia Corwin.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM, Friday, January 12, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Church, 454 Bow Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation from 9:00 – 9:45 AM in the Church Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Cherry Hill, MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church Outreach, P.O. Box 345, Elkton, MD 21921.
