Wannetta Chere Barr, 69, of Elkton, MD passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. Born in Havre de Grace, MD on August 25, 1954, she was the daughter of Joseph C. Simmons and the late Minnie Rineholt Simmons.

Ms. Barr retired after 25 years working for Dr. Obenshain as a medical assistant, and later retired again from Christiana Care, Union Hospital. She loved her job and all of her patients. Ms. Barr had a feisty will, enjoyed listening to music, traveling to the beach, reading, skydiving, spending time with family and friends, and taking care of her father.

In addition to her father, survivors include her daughter, Shannon Barr (Ronald Odom), North East, MD; granddaughter, Julia Barr, North East, MD; sister, Aleicia McDonald, Marydel, DE; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Steven Simmons, and Renate Simmons.

Prayer service will be held 6 PM, Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 5 PM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute at 4701 Ogletown Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.
