Obituary

Thomas William Coder, 60, of Earleville, MD passed away peacefully after a long illness at his home on Monday, August 5, 2024. Born in Wilmington, DE on October 15, 1963, he was the son of the late William Thomas, Jr. and Charlene Weiser Coder.

Tom graduated from Dickinson High School in 1982 and went on to earn a B.S. in Finance from the University of Alabama in 1987. Tom had a distinguished career as an IT Project Manager, contributing his expertise to the finance, transportation, and healthcare sectors. He was passionate about Philadelphia sports, especially the Eagles and Phillies, and was a devoted University of Alabama football fan. A Deadhead for over 40 years, Tom attended over 70 Grateful Dead shows with his lifelong friends, enjoying the music and camaraderie. He was a loving and faithful family man, spending every Thanksgiving for three decades with his parents, sisters, nieces, and nephews in Cape Hatteras, NC. Tom's constant companions were his beloved golden retrievers, first Achilles for 13 years, and then Elisha for another 10 years. His love for his dogs was evident to all who knew him.

Survivors include his sisters, Jodi Shitama (Jack), Lauri Stout (Jay), and Leslie Diestel (Greg); 4 nieces; 4 nephews; 1 great-niece; and 4 great-nephews.

Celebration of Life will be held 5 PM, Monday, August 19, 2024 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 450 Third Street, Chesapeake City, MD 21915, with visitation beginning at 4 PM. Tie-dyed apparel is encouraged. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The ALS Association at P.O. Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037.
