Dangerfield
July 24, 1940 – December 20, 2024
Shirley Violet Dangerfield, 84, of Elkton, Maryland, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born on July 24, 1940, she was the beloved daughter of Violet Roten and Francis Spence, and stepdaughter of Edward Roten.
Shirley was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 51 years, Henry J. Dangerfield; her parents; her brother, Ralph Spence; and her sister, Carolyn Hutson.
She is survived by her sister, Marilyn McMillian; her cherished children: Vaughn Dangerfield of Allentown, Shawn Dangerfield and his wife Brenda of Elkton, Dawn Dangerfield-Ayers and her husband Scott of Elkton, Fawn Perrine and her husband Greg of Elkton; her bonus children: Cherith Short and Matt, and Michael Short.
Shirley's legacy lives on in her grandchildren: Christiana Koonce and her husband Justin, Tia McCoy and her husband Matt, Hayes Dangerfield and his fiancée Angel, Hunter Widdoes, Heath Widdoes, Jordan Perrine, Lucas Perrine, Mariah Short, and Brett Short and Madison. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Kendra, Wade, Kloe, Willow, Kenndahl, Aubrey, Amaya, and Elliott, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Shirley had a profound love for the Lord, Jesus Christ, and lived her life guided by her faith. Her greatest pride and joy was her family, whom she adored and supported in every endeavor. She delighted in country music, cheering on her favorite sports teams—the Capitals, Ravens, and Orioles—and especially watching her family excel in sports. Shirley was a gifted crocheter, earning numerous first-place ribbons at the Cecil County Fair for her beautiful creations.
Her faith, generosity, and compassion will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at River of Life Church, 1121 Singerly Road, Elkton, MD 21921, on December 28, 2024 at 10:30 AM. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation from 9:30 AM to 10:30AM prior to the service. Interment will follow at Gilpin Manor Memorial Park.
