Obituary

Sandra Jean Correll Ruckman, 81, of Elkton, MD passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Born in Wilmington, DE on April 9, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Jr. and Virginia Mitchell Correll.

Sandy had a diverse career, holding many roles over the years that allowed her to impact her community in meaningful ways. She worked as a beautician, as a cafeteria and bus assistant, and later became a manager at Kmart, where she developed lasting relationships with both colleagues and customers. In addition to her work, Sandy was deeply involved in her community which led her to becoming a foster parent. She opened her heart and home to those in need, providing love, guidance, and stability to so many who were fortunate enough to be in her care.  She had been a member of Cherry Hill Methodist Church, Pencader Grange, and Jobs Daughters, where she made many lifelong friendships. She also had a deep love for the outdoors, particularly camping, and was a lifelong fan of NASCAR racing. However, Sandy's greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

Survivors include her children, Cheryl Norman (Michael Sr.), Elkton, MD, April Wiggins (fiancé, Leon Smith), Elkton, MD, and Theresa Nichols (Tom), Newark, DE; 7 grandchildren, Michael Norman Jr. (Erin), Don Dunlap III (Leah), Amanda Norman, Nicole Nichols (fiancé, Tom Abbott), Sean Norman (Danielle), Amber Moss (Steven Sr.), and Martin Nichols; 12 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Steven Jr., Ella, Mason, Carson, Ava, Logan, Brooklynn, Sandra, Callie, Emma, and Lilly; and her siblings, Majorie Butler, Jacob Correll III, both of Millsboro, DE, James Correll, Clayton, DE, Janet Wallen, Newark, DE, and Linda Lambert, Whiteford, MD.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Martin Ruckman; and her brothers, David, Robert, and George Correll.
