Loomis
June 6, 1929 – December 30, 2025
Ruth Gregg Loomis, 96, of Elkton, MD, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. Born in Cherry Hill, MD, on June 6, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Florence Vandergrift Gregg.
Mrs. Loomis was a proud graduate of Elkton High School and had attended Cecil College. She retired after 37 years with C&P Telephone Company and was the first woman to serve as President of the Maryland Chapter of Telephone Pioneers. Following her retirement, she worked as an administrative assistant in real estate. Mrs. Loomis was deeply involved in civic, church, and volunteer organizations, having served as President of both the Woman's Club of Cecil County, Inc, and the Eastern Shore District for the GFWC. She was a devoted member of the Elkton United Methodist Church, where she had served as the recording secretary for the Gleaners Committee as well as being very active in other aspects of the church. Mrs. Loomis had been a volunteer in the gift shop at Union Hospital and was a member of the 3 & 4 Junior Auxiliary Board. She was a member of the Friends of the Library, the Red Hatters, and a life member of the Maryland Women's Bowling Association. Mrs. Loomis, whose family had owned Cecil Lanes, was an avid bowler who had attended over 40 USBC International Bowling Tournaments. She enjoyed sports, reading, and spending time outdoors. Mrs. Loomis will be remembered for her commitment to service, her leadership, and her love of community.
Survivors include her children, Keith W. Loomis, Kill Devil Hills, NC, and Kelly A. Racine (Wayne E. Racine, Jr.), Elkton, MD; granddaughter, Kandace Racine, Elkton, MD; step-grandson, Wayne E. Racine III, Elkton, MD; companion, Charles Allport, Nottingham, PA; sister-in-law, Goldia Gregg, Elkton, MD; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Warren "Jack" Loomis; and brothers, Lawrence C. and Charles H. Gregg.
Funeral service will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Elkton United Methodist Church, 219 E. Main Street, Elkton, MD, 21921, with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be private in Elkton Cemetery, Elkton, MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Singerly Fire Company or to Elkton United Methodist Church in care of Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921.
