Obituary

Ruth Ann Pyle, 94, of Elkmore, Elkton, MD, peacefully passed August 22, 2026. Born March 16th in Elk Neck, MD ,and raised in Christiana, DE, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Margaret L. Lockard. 

Ruth Ann was committed to a strong Christian life starting with her baptism at Wesley Chapel in Elk Neck, and continued with her joining the Christiana (DE) Methodist Church, where she was a Methodist youth fellowship member/leader and married there. She joined other churches when moving to Avondale, PA, Waukegan, IL, and Wilmington, DE, and finally returning to Wesley Methodist Church. She sang in the choir and served as a Sunday School teacher, VBS volunteer, belonged to Bible Study groups and Wesley Women as well as prepared hundreds of meals for fundraisers, church events and the needy. 

She also loved flowers and plants of every type and was a member of the Evergreen (PA) and All Seasons (MD) Garden Clubs. She displayed arrangements at the Philadelphia Flower Show and her house was filled with orchids, violets and a variety of plants. Ruth Ann was an avid roller skater at the Merryland Roller rink, skating competitively in the 1950s. In her teens she was an active member in the Delaware 4H, entering the state fair sewing contest. She used those skills as a homemaker, crafting clothes for her children and making slipcovers and curtains. She was exceptionally talented in the kitchen, passing those skills on to her children and teaching others how to make pie crust. She was known for her homemade pies, sticky buns and many other special dishes. In support of her children, Ruth Ann was a leader for Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4H, and Jobs Daughters. Ruth Ann & her husband also volunteered with Meals on Wheels in Elkton. 

Above all, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, GiGi, sister, aunt and dearest friend to everyone. Ruth Ann is survived by her children: Terri Reed (Donald), Newark, DE; Deborah Pyle, Wilmington, DE; William Pyle, Elkton, MD; Dave Pyle Sr, Wilmington, DE; “Jo” Sauers (Michael), Houston, DE; grandchildren: Dave Pyle Jr., Ian Pyle Sr., Emily Reed (Connor Mahoney), and Mason Sauers; great-grandchildren: Ian Pyle Jr. and Charlotte Mahoney; sisters: Alice Francois, Landenberg, PA, “Peggy” Lockard, Bear, DE, Barbara Strobel (John), Winchester, VA, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and her devoted pup Muppet. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63-years J. Roland “Boots” Pyle, daughter-in-law, Tracey Pyle, sister-in-law Eleanor McKinstry, and brothers-in-laws: Herbert McKinstry and Arnold Francois. 

Funeral services will be held at Noon, Friday, September 11 at Wesley Church of Elkton, 41 Justice Way, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation starting at 11 am. Interment will be private at a later date.
