In Loving Memory of Rheda Meekins Bitler

Mrs. Rheda Meekins Bitler, a devoted mother, grandmother, and cherished community servant, was born on September 6, 1926. The beloved daughter of the late Wanda and Kelsey Cox Sr., Rheda dedicated her entire life to nurturing her family and lifting up the lives of those around her.

Family was the center of Rheda’s world. She was a deeply loving and devoted mother to her three children from her first marriage to Dudley Meekins—Patricia Norman, Mary Jane Grant, and Dennis Meekins. Her joy only expanded over the generations, blossoming into a proud legacy of seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense light to her life.

Rheda’s warmth and generous spirit extended far beyond her home. For 25 years, she faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher at North East Methodist Church, guiding countless children with her faith and kind heart. As a dedicated school bus driver for many years, she greeted every student with care, leaving a lasting impression on generations of young people who cherished her long after they graduated. She also gave selflessly of her time as a volunteer at Union Hospital in Elkton, bringing comfort to patients and staff alike.

Among her greatest joys were the simple, beautiful pleasures of life: tending to her vibrant flowers and cooking heartfelt meals for her loved ones. Her generosity was legendary, especially during the holidays. Every Christmas, Rheda spent days lovingly baking homemade cakes to gift to her friends—a sweet tradition that everyone looked forward to with bright anticipation.

Rheda was a truly wonderful woman whose kindness, strength, and unconditional love bound her family close together. Though she is deeply missed, her legacy of warmth, service, and devotion lives forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
