Obituary

Paul Robert Lionel Pelletier, 92, of Elkton, MD passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Born in Putnam, CT on June 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Louis and Rose Deshaies Pelletier.

Paul dedicated over three decades of his life to serving his country. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951, going on to serve with honor during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Stationed aboard the USS Forrestal, Paul worked as the chef's cook, a role he carried out with pride, feeding generations of sailors. He retired from the Navy in 1981 after 30 years of honorable service. Following his military career, Paul worked for the VA Hospital in Perry Point, MD, caring for sick patients. Paul remained active in veterans' circles as a committed member of both the VFW Post #7687 in Chesapeake City, MD and the American Legion Cecil Post #15. In his retirement, Paul became a skilled amateur winemaker, and had been a lifelong sports fan, cheering passionately for the Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Eagles. He also loved spending time outdoors, especially when fishing, a pastime that brought him peace and joy.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Cecilia Holmes Pelletier; children, Shelia Barclay, Elkton, MD, Bill Pelletier (Debbie), Long Neck, DE, Denise Pelletier (Mark Oakey), Damascus, MD, Robert Pelletier, Elkton, MD, and Michele James (Curtis), Virginia Beach, VA; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Theresa Pelletier; and his brother, Fr. Louis Pelletier.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Interment with Military Honors will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Cherry Hill, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Paws for Purple Hearts, or to Catholic Charities USA, in care of Hicks Home for Funerals, P.A. at the above address.
