Norbert Hoffmann, 77, of Elkton, MD, passed away surrounded by loved ones on November 3, 2023. Born in Herford, Germany on September 28, 1946, he had been a U.S. citizen for 55 years. He was the son of the late Alfred and Waltraud Schroeder Hoffmann.
Mr. Hoffmann served in the German Navy as a radio and long distance transmitter technician, and retired from Dupont as a Laboratory Equipment Technician. He was a very dedicated,, hardworking and reliable man who loved to keep himself busy. Norbert is described as a family man who is also an avid animal lover with a green thumb and a sweet tooth. His friends and family knew him as "Norm" or "Norbie" and he will be remembered for his goofy sense of humor, contagious laugh, infectious smile and thirst for life. His hobbies included traveling, gardening, reading, watching sci-fi movies or westerns, boating, time in his spa, spending time with his friends and family and being anywhere near the water, especially the beach, with his favorite annual vacation spot being Wildwood, NJ.
He was the loving husband to his beloved wife of 35 years, Carol J. Wilson Hoffmann; devoted father to his children, Sharon Bauer, Michael Hoffmann, both of California, and step-children, Howard Hunter (Alexix), Daniel Hunter (Karen), both of Pennsylvania; loving Opa to his grandchildren, Alec Bauer, Zack Hunter (Michelle), Brigitte Hunter (Johnny McMonigal), Brett Hunter (Angela), Hayleigh Cliggett (T.J.), Heidi Hunter (Daniel Maroun), Carli Hunter (Chris Maccrory), Christian Hunter; devoted and loving Opa to his great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Everleigh, Kennedy, Daniel, Ava, Kolby, Thomas, Anthony; loving brother to his sister, Elke, of Germany; and special recognition to Opa's Angel, Dee Sessa-Joyce.
Celebration of Life will be held 3 PM, Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Baldwin United Methodist Church, 756 Elk Mills Road, Elk Mills, MD 21920, with visitation beginning at 2 PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Norbert's name to the Maryland SPCA, Inc., Attn: Development at 330 Falls Road, Baltimore, MD 21211.
