Obituary

Miriam R. Keenan, age 87, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, June 18, 2021. Born in Wilmington, DE on May 29, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Regina Dabkowski Spence.

Mrs. Keenan graduated in 1954 from St. Peter's Catholic High School in New Castle, DE. She loved her family and opened her door to anyone in need. She was an avid reader and famous for her chicken and dumplings, and potato soup. Mrs. Keenan was affectionately known by many as "Sam," a name bestowed on her many years ago by the patrons of the Delaware Officer's Club.

Survivors include her children, Teri Keenan, Newark, DE, Michael Keenan (Maryann), Elkton, MD, Carl Keenan, Newark, DE, Eissa Ritter (Greg), Arden, DE and Tulia McCanick (Harold), Elkton, MD; grandchildren, Dwayne, Christopher, Michael, and Brandy Keenan, and Billy and Betty Gamble; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Aiden, Samantha, Micha and Onica Keenan.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Keenan was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Edward J. Keenan; sons, Mark and Brian Keenan; and three brothers and one sister.

Memorial Mass will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Church, 455 Bow Street, Elkton, MD. Private Interment.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church, or to Chesapeake City VFW Post #7687, in care of Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921.
