Mildred Lorraine Nowland, 94, of Elkton, MD passed away on December 27, 2024. Born in Elkton on April 2, 1930, she was the daughter of the late J. Leon and H. Mildred Nowland.
Lorraine retired after many years of service as an administrative assistant at the University of Delaware. She was a devoted member of Baldwin United Methodist Church, where she played the piano and organ for many years, sharing her musical talents with the congregation. Her heart for service was evident through her active involvement in the church's mission programs, where she worked tirelessly to support those in need. In addition to her commitment to church and work, Lorraine had a passion for dancing and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She lovingly cared for her grandmother's Christmas cactus, a cherished family heirloom, and her love for animals was a defining part of who she was. Lorraine was also very devoted to her brother, offering him unwavering love and support throughout their lives. Her warmth, generosity, and spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her brother, Kenneth Nowland, Elkton, MD.
Funeral service will be held 11 AM, Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be in Sharps Cemetery, Fair Hill, MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Baldwin United Methodist Church Missions Program at P.O. Box 12, Elk Mills, MD 21920.
