Michael Albert
Truman
October 19, 1951 – May 9, 2026
Michael Albert Truman was born in Rushville, Indiana on October 19,1951 to Dr. Elmer Truman and Maryrose (Peters). Devoted husband to the late Roberta M. Truman and daughter, Andrea T. Gundogdu, son-in-law, Murat Gundogdu. He was a fabulous grandfather to Adem, Taylan and John. He was the oldest of five children; Angela Doepker (Dan), Thomas Truman (Beth), David Truman (Kathy), and Mary Pat Castleman (Steve). He also leaves behind beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mike was raised in Indiana and completed his high school education when the family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. He loved to play trumpet and softball and was very proud to have attended Roger Bacon High School. After Roger Bacon, Mike applied and amazingly got accepted into to Xavier University (his grades were not the best). This college career directed Mike to two very distinct pathways that shaped his future life path.
The first pathway led him to the love of his life, Roberta Leugers, who after multiple attempts of asking out on a date, finally agreed and their relationship began. They played together in the marching band. They married on July 6, 1974, after 2 years dating. Mike received a BA in Psychology and started managing the local paint shop. He moved on to working with troubled youth in Cincinnati for some time. One day, he decided to apply for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and this would set his life direction for 30 years. Mike and Bobbie moved to Wisconsin in 1978, and it was there they welcomed their daughter.
The second pathway led him to his special relationship with the Jesuits. Mike particularly felt a connection to the mission of the Jesuits which is to work for the service of faith and the promotion of justice, reconciliation with God, humanity, and the environment. Mike began to really explore his relationship with God in the Church shortly before retiring from the Federal Prison system. Bobbie and he slowly began to focus more time on church and they both became Eucharistic ministers. The calling to service God was very strong with Mike, and with Bobbie's blessing, he started the process to become a Deacon. He celebrated his 17-year anniversary on the same day that he passed. His ministry was to the sick and homebound reflecting the Jesuit mission that he first connected to in his 20s.
Mike Truman was a devoted man who really wanted the best for everyone. He was sarcastic. He was giving. He was stubborn. He was dependable. He was a learner. He was a teacher. He was a storyteller. He was a massive buyer of books. He was a believer in humanity.
