Mary Emma Smith, age 92, of Elkton, MD, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2022. Born in Elkton, on September 4, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Martha Simpers Welch.

Mrs. Smith had worked as an assembler at RMR in Elkton, and later at Calvert Manor Nursing Home, Rising Sun, MD, and Newark Manor Nursing Home, Newark, DE, retiring as a dietary aide. A member of West Wilmington Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Wilmington, DE, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, and going on outings to dinner.

Survivors include her children, Joseph Smith (Donna), and Sandra Smith Sniegowski (Jack), both of Elkton; grandchildren, Joseph Smith, Jr., and Susan Smith Gary; great-grandchildren, Breana, Caleb, and Hailey Smith, and Shailynn and Bryson Gary; and great-great grandchildren, Ansley, Harlow, and Brinleigh.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joseph Smith, and siblings, Edith Dvorak, and George and Lewis Welch.

A visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 West Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Elkton.
