Mary Irene Roland, 80, of Charlestown, MD passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024. She was born in Newark, NJ on May 1, 1944.

Mary had worked in utility billing for the city of Newark, DE. After retirement, she continued to work, and was committed to caring for her family, friends of many years, and other acquaintances. Mary found her true love later in life and married Tom Gillette. Unfortunately, Tom passed away several years ago due to surgery complications. They cherished every moment, despite the brevity of their time together. Mary had a passion for travel, particularly indulging in the luxury of multi-continental cruises. She couldn't resist the allure of a yard sale, where she not only discovered unique finds but also forged friendships with fellow enthusiasts, and on any given Saturday, you could find Mary's tables set up at the flea market. Above all else, Mary adored her roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughter, Denise L. Moore; son, Wayne Roland; sisters, Jean and Lucy; and a very large and loving family, both biological and chosen.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM, Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be private.
