Mark Edward
Clark
June 16, 1951 – March 30, 2026
Mark Edward Clark, 74, of Elkton, MD, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026 after a short illness. Born in Wilmington, DE, on June 16, 1951, he was the son of the late Edward L. and Elizabeth "Betty Jane" (Reese) Clark. Mark was a proud graduate of Henry C. Conrad High School and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Urban Planning & Design from the University of Delaware and a Master of Architecture Degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech). He also completed post graduate studies at the University of Arizona, University of Pennsylvania, and Harvard University.
Mark was an architect and the owner of Clark Design Group in Elkton, where he built a respected business founded on his unwavering belief in collaborative design and participatory planning. His notable portfolio of work included renovations to Elkton Middle School, as well as multiple award-winning projects with the University of Delaware, W.L. Gore, and Union Hospital. But Mark was equally proud of the work he did with clients who had never before worked with an architect or who had a tight budget and didn't think architectural services were accessible to them. His creative problem solving and respect for the goals of each client shone through every project. Mark was also committed to improving the architectural profession and served as the President of AIA Delaware from 2011-2015.
A dedicated member of the Cecil County community, Mark was a member and past-President of the Elkton Rotary Club and a Member of the Board of Directors for CASA of Cecil County. He served on the Cecil County Planning Commission, the Cecil County Chamber of Commerce, BEPAC of Cecil County (president), the Historical Society of Cecil County, the Elkton Housing Board, the Elkton Revitalization Committee, and the Elkton Historic Review Board. He also served as an advisor to the Perryville Revitalization Committee. Somehow, he found time to obtain his pilot's license and coach his kids' softball and soccer teams. He was passionate about his hobbies, including collecting classic cars, working in his shop, and playing his many Martin guitars.
He is survived by the family he loved so dearly: his devoted wife of 51 years Georgia Soltis Clark; children Elizabeth Clark Rinehart (Richard), Arnold, MD; Meredith Clark (Joshua Mister), Rising Sun, MD; Allison Clark Svezzese (Anthony), Elkton, MD; grandchildren Harper, Maya, Richard (Rex), and James; brother Paul Clark (Pam Scott), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 1 PM, Monday, April 6, 2026, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 11 am. Interment will be in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, Elkton, MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Children's in care of Hicks Home for Funerals at the above listed address. Mark was passionate in his support of the children who benefited from these organizations.
