Margaret Dolores Birney, age 87, of North East, MD, passed away Friday, November 11, 2022. Born in Elkton, MD, on February 22, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John and Mildred Lynch Clark.

A homemaker, Mrs. Birney was a loving wife and mother who took pride in caring for her family. With her husband, Walter, they owned and raised horses that were trained for the sport of harness racing. She enjoyed watching the Baltimore Orioles and could often be found quilting or crocheting.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Walter Birney, Sr.; children, Donna Baker, Elkton, MD, Diane Neal (James), Newark, DE, Walter Birney, Jr. (Rose), Port Deposit, MD, Helen "Debbie" Birney, and Howard Birney (Maud), all of North East, MD; siblings, John Clark, Jr. (Shirley), Elkton, MD, and William Clark (Maria), North East, MD; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; 3 beloved dachshunds; and numerous nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Walter C. Birney.

Funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 West Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, where visitation will begin at 12 Noon. Interment will follow in Cherry Hill Methodist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association; or to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home at the above address.
