Mabel Marie Shorter, 79, of Newark, DE passed away on October 29, 2026. Born in Elkton, MD on December 15, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Louise (Lyle) Cox. 

Mabel loved sewing, baking, and expressing her artistic talents. One of her special joys was making treats for her family, friends, and neighbors. Mabel was a talented seamstress; she made clothes and custom curtains that rivaled department stores.

Mabel was a social butterfly. She made friends easily and would strike up conversations with anyone. She liked to visit nursing homes and offer encouraging words to residents-a true reflection of a kind heart.

Mabel is preceded in death by her parents and three siblings: Tom Cox, Ella Brown, and Robert Cox. 

She leaves to treasure her memory her loving husband and best friend of 32 years Romeo P. Shorter; and her siblings: Danny Cox (Toni) of Chesapeake, VA, George Lyle (Patricia), Linda Aguayo (Eduardo), Dean Cox, and Elaine Jefferson, all of Elkton, MD, and Nancy Cox of Newark, DE. She also leaves to honor her legacy a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
