Obituary

Lucy Marion Truitt of Elkton, Maryland went home to be with the Lord on November 2, 2018. She was born April 14, 1933 in Harlan County, Kentucky. Lucy was the daughter of the late William H. and Rosie Owens Halcomb.

Born a coal miner's daughter, Lucy loved storytelling, especially those from her childhood years in Kentucky and Rogersville, Tennessee. She moved with her family to Cecil County, Maryland in 1948 where she met the love of her life, John "Jack" Truitt, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. Her greatest pride in life was being a mother to the six children they would have together.

Mom was a lover of life and nature. She enjoyed her many trips around town shopping or meeting up with friends for lunch. She had many special friends and everyone she met fell in love with her. Sunday evenings were special to mom as it became a time for family to gather.

Mom was gifted with a green thumb as she could grow most anything. She loved jewelry and always wore a wide array, having an interesting story to tell about each piece. Other hobbies included bird watching, caring for cats, bingo and TV.

In addition to her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Truitt and eight siblings.

Survivors include her six loving children, John Wayne Truitt (Staci), Linda M. Bozarth (Keith), Roger L. Truitt (Valerie), Judy A. Hotchkiss (Robert), Dorothy R. Gill (James), Walter I. Truitt (Dian). Additional survivors and life blessings include 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Lastly, she leaves behind her beloved cat, Candy.

Lucy was an active member of Cherry Hill United Methodist Church since 1961. She had many church friends and special memories. When able, she would help serve at luncheons. She loved playing bingo with her friends at the Harlan House.
