Obituary

Kathleen (Kathy) Callaghan Brown, age 70, of Elkton, MD, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 25, 2023. Kathy lived a beautiful faith-led life filled with the love from her family, lasting friendships, and endless laughter.

Kathy was born in Washington, DC on August 18, 1952 to the late John and Patricia Waters Callaghan. She was the second of seven children, which is where she learned first-hand the meaning of faith, family, and love.

Later in life, the Callaghans moved to Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. Kathy attended Unionville High School where she met her high school sweetheart, John. Kathy and John wed in 1974 and shared 46 years of marriage. They spent 14 of those years in Wilmington, NC where they had five of their children - Katie, Meghan, Bryan, Marley, and Meredith. After moving to Maryland to be closer to family, they rounded out their family with their sixth child, Taylor. Their six kids were Kathy's world. She and John would spend most of their time on the sidelines of their games or supporting them in school events. Their devoted and constant love created the strongest of bonds among all eight of them.

Kathy's generous heart and passion for caring for children carried over in her work. She lit up when she talked about the kids she taught when she managed multiple Boys and Girls Clubs and worked in the Cecil County Public School system. It also brought her joy to coach and support the youth when she volunteered with First Tee.

In her spare time, you could find Kathy at the golf course. She loved the game and loved playing with her girlfriends. She also loved big family gatherings especially during the holidays, annual trips to the Outer Banks, evenings on the beach, and watching a show on Broadway. But more than anything, Kathy loved her family unconditionally. She adored her 15 grandchildren, and it would bring her incredible happiness to join in on whatever they enjoyed doing. She cheered for them at their games, played cars and built towers, drew pictures, did crafts, and read books, and sang lullabies while she rocked her grandbabies to sleep. She was truly the best Nanny. They will miss the warmth from her hugs and her unwavering love.

Survivors include her children, Katie Brown, Raleigh, NC, Meghan Brown (Adam), Millington, MD, Bryan Brown (Michelle), Chesapeake City, MD, Marley Sirman (Kevin), Raleigh, NC, Meredith McCombs (Chris), Raleigh, NC, and Taylor Nobles (David), Franklinton, NC; grandchildren, Brynn and Emmy Bacon, Bryce, Jack, and Bear Brown, Bennett, Knox, and baby Sirman, Harper, Evie, Josie, and Mack McCombs, and Ziva, Norah, Lyla, and Beau Nobles; siblings, John Callaghan (Peg), Eileen Shadday, Bob Callaghan (Debbie), Jeanne Braun (Don), Carey Civitella (Bob); brother-in-law Jeff Brown; and 21 nieces and nephews.
