Joseph Henry Scarborough, 90, of Elkton, MD passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Born and raised in Blake, near Elkton on February 12, 1934, he was the son of the late Joseph Bascum and Laura Jane Scarborough.
Joseph graduated from the University of Delaware in 1956 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. His love for airplanes and flying was evident throughout his life. After completing his studies, he served in the U.S. Army and later worked for Thiokol in Elkton during the height of the space race, designing rocket motors. Joseph's career continued with WL Gore & Associates, where he spent 15 years before retiring in 1989. He married his beloved wife, Carol, and together they enjoyed more than 57 years of marriage, building a life filled with love and shared adventures before her passing in 2018. They made countless memories with their children and grandchildren on their farm in Maryland, as well as on many joyful trips to Disney World.
Survivors include his daughters, Diane Forrest (Dean), Sharon Williams (George); his sons, Robert Scarborough (Cindy), and Matthew Scarborough (Melissa); his daughter-in-law, Lara Scarborough; 13 grandchildren, Vivian Forrest, Nolan Forrest, Emily Forrest, Katie Kepler, Sarah Williams, Eric Williams, Scott Williams, Olivia Scarborough, Morgan Scarborough, Jack Scarborough, Eva Scarborough, Robbie Scarborough, and Courtney Scarborough; and 2 great-grandchildren, Milo Haman and Carson Forrest.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Vivian Scarborough; his son, Mark Scarborough; and his sisters, Mary Jane Ewing and Margaret Clayton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM, Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Church, 454 Bow Street, Elkton, MD 21921. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Cherry Hill, MD.
