John Daniel Cooney, Sr., 84, of Elkton, MD, passed away on October 13, 2023. Born in Philadelphia, PA on March 24, 1939, he was the son of the late Patrick and Evelyn Corsack Cooney.

A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Cooney retired as a mechanic. He was a member of the Newark VFW, and he enjoyed dancing and singing.

Survivors include his loving wife of 20 years, Nancy J. Neyman Cooney; children, John D. Cooney, Jr., Brian Cooney, Vincent Cooney, Laura Jane Cooney-Estes; step-children, Laura Jean Carbonetta, Margaret Ann Stanley, Arthur Lee Reynolds; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Patrick, Dennis, Anne, and Bonnie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Theresa, Joe, Evelyn, Jean, Billy, Mary and Jerry.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Church, 454 Bow Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 9 AM in the Church Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Cherry Hill, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Elkton VFW, Newark VFW or to Mummers Museum, in care of Hicks Home for Funerals at 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921.
