John Austin Henderson, 99, of Elkton, MD passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024. Born in Elkton on June 15, 1924, he was the son of the late Walter Harold and Mary Allen Henderson.
Mr. Henderson was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He retired as a repairman with General Motors, and then continued working as a school bus driver while owning his own painting business. He was a member of the American Legion Post 194, UAW 435, and the American Beagle Club. Mr. Henderson loved being around people and was well known to be a practical joker.
Survivors include his children, John Henderson (Julie), Elkton, MD, and Deborah Permar (Buddy), Middletown, DE; grandchildren, Lisa Beldyk (Bob), Ericka Meyer, John Permar, Jeff Permar, Murray Martin; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Cameron, Nicholas, Olivia, Jacob, Tyler, Gage; siblings, Helen Long, Paula Newton, and Lawrence Henderson, all of Elkton, MD; and caregiver, Margie Weible.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Gregson Henderson; his second wife, Bunny Hughes Henderson; and brother, Harold Henderson.
Funeral service will be held 11 AM, Friday, January 26, 2024 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Interment with Military Honors will be in Sharps Cemetery, Elkton, MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Amedisys Foundation, 107 Chesapeake Blvd, Ste. 134, Elkton, MD 21921.
