John Edward Dvorak, 78, of Elkton, MD passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025. Born in Elkton on November 5, 1946, he was the son of the late Frank Sr. and Edith Welch Dvorak.
A proud member of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, John served his country with honor and courage. He was awarded two Purple Hearts, an Army Commendation Medal, the Cross of Gallantry, and the Oak Leaf Cluster in recognition of his bravery, sacrifice, and commitment to his fellow soldiers. John had a successful career as a track inspector for Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he worked until his retirement. Prior to that, he was employed at Schult Mobile Homes in Elkton. His dedication to others extended well beyond his professional life. John was an active life member of Singerly Fire Company, where he served not only as a volunteer but also as an officer and on the Board of Directors for many years, selflessly giving his time and energy to serve the community. He had a deep appreciation for farming, fishing, and the outdoors, finding peace in nature. John was also a talented carpenter, admired for his skill and craftsmanship.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Linda Dvorak; children, Michelle Dvorak, Chesapeake City, MD, and John Anthony Dvorak (fiancée, Rosella Hunter), Fair Hill, MD; his siblings, Roger D. Dvorak, Elkton, MD, Thomas J. Dvorak, Michael C. Dvorak, and Debra L. Cooper, all of Hiawassee, GA; and son-in-law, George Bostwick.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank J. Dvorak, Jr.
Funeral service will be held 12 PM, Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 10:30 AM. Interment with Military Honors will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Cherry Hill, MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tunnel to Towers, or to Singerly Fire Company, in care of Hicks Home for Funerals, P.A. at the above address.
