Joanne D. Clark, 89, of Elkton, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Born in Elkton on March 18, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Devine and Verna Devine Holmes.
Mrs. Clark resided in her home on North Street for 67 years, creating a life filled with love and memories. Before her distinguished career as a registered nurse, she had worked in the community as a telephone operator. Mrs. Clark provided compassionate care at Devine Haven Nursing Home, an establishment founded by her mother. Her nursing journey extended to schools in Cecil County and Delaware, as well as the Delaware penal system. Mrs. Clark will be remembered as an individual who provided care and assistance at any time of day or night, always ready to support Elkton's less fortunate and even its feral cat population.
Survivors include her children, William Jerome Clark (Judy), James Kevin Clark, and Diana Clark Rego (Jim "JR"); grandchildren, Jessica Marie Quinnam (Randy), Stephanie Rose Devine, Catherine Elizabeth Rego, William Carmen Rego, James Patrick Rego, Mikhaila Li-Dai Clark, and Morgan Lin-Li Clark; great-grandsons, Ethan Cleveland Quinnam, and Jovian Todd Ambrose Devine; brother, Earl Hamm; niece Cristy Carter Galasso (Andrew); great-nephews, Scott Carter, Zachary, Anthony, and Nicholas Galasso; former daughter-in-law and dear friend, Rose White Clark "Rosie"; and in friendship and fellowship, others who helped her feed and care for Elkton's cats.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, William James Clark; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Bob Carter; and stepfather, Harvey Holmes.
Graveside service will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Brookview Cemetery, Cemetery Lane, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a local community outreach program, The Paris Foundation at P.O. Box 812, Elkton, MD 21922.
