Janie Louise Sturgill, 82, of Elkton, MD, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025. Born in Mountain City, TN on March 23, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Sara Wilson Snyder.

A devoted homemaker throughout her life, Janie took great pride in creating a welcoming place for her family and friends to gather. For over 20 years, she was an active member of the Recycled Teenage Cruisers, where she enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships she built over the years. She also loved spending time outdoors, especially in her yard, where she loved tending to her lawn and enjoying the peace of nature.

Survivors include her husband of over 64 years, James Sturgill; daughter, Wendy Guerra (Vincent), Palm Beach Gardens, FL; grandchildren, Kolb Potter and Katelyn Martin Tyndall; siblings, Harold Snyder (Lois), Jacksonville, FL, Doody Snyder (Babs), Elkton, MD, Lois Fuqua, St. Augustine, FL, and Paul Snyder (Marie), Elkton, MD; and brother-in-law, Cliff Freeman, Elkton, MD.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Bunny Sturgill Martin; and sister, Shirley Freeman.

Funeral service will be held 3 PM, Friday, October 17, 2025 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 2 PM. Interment will be private.
