James "Jay" Walter Hatfield, 74, of New Castle, DE went home to be with the Lord while surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends on Sunday, February 18, 2024. Born in Pinson Fork, KY on May 1, 1949, he was the son of the late Walter Hatfield and Marie Marcum Wood.

A U. S. Army veteran, Mr. Hatfield retired after 47 years from Chrysler Corporation as an Industrial Engineer. He was a wonderful husband, father, pop-pop, Sunday school teacher, mentor, and friend. Jay was also a member of Fairwinds Baptist Church, loved reading, spending time with his grandkids, being at sporting events, and enjoyed bible study. He was a servant of the Lord and loved helping others.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce Hatfield; children, Jay Hatfield (Grace), Bend, OR, Kevin Hatfield, New Castle, DE, and Kimberly Fresconi (Frank), Newark, DE; grandchildren, Mikayla, Jacob, Emma, Liam, and Owen; sister, Shirley Rash, Elkton, MD; and brother-in-law, Keith Thurman, Elkton, MD.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Randy Hatfield; brother-in-law, Dave Rash; and sister, Angie Thurman.

Funeral service with Military Honors will be held 11 AM, Monday, February 26, 2024 at Fairwinds Baptist Church, 801 Seymour Road, Bear, DE 19701, with visitation beginning at 10 AM.

Interment will be held one month from the date of service at 1 PM, Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
