James Warren Melvin "Pop", 86, of Elkton, MD passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Born in Wilmington, DE on July 31, 1937, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Anna Stirk Melvin.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Melvin proudly served his country. Following his service, he embarked on a fulfilling career as an instrument mechanic at DuPont Corporation. Beyond his professional endeavors, James was an active member of various organizations within his community including the Elkton Moose Club, and a volunteer member of Singerly Fire Company. He had a passion for craftsmanship, and enjoyed woodworking, and found solace and contentment sitting on his porch. James had a remarkable ability to connect with people of all ages, and cherished moments spent in the company of loved ones, always ready with a joke or story to tell.
Survivors include his children, Ronald Melvin Coale (Dee), Christopher Melvin (Dawn), Rick Melvin (Karen), Sharon Churchwell (Brian), Joy Truslow (Larry); daughter-in-law, Joanna Melvin Timchula; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, George Melvin (Carol); and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol Ann Melvin; son, John Melvin; and sister, Roberta Ferguson (Bob).
Celebration of Life will be held 1 PM, Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Elkton United Methodist Church, 219 E. Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123; or to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at 200 Vesey Street, 28th Floor, New York, NY 10281; or to Muscular Dystrophy Association at P.O. Box 7410354, Chicago, IL 60674.
