James "Don" Donald Cornett, 96, of Elkton, MD passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Born in Grayson County, VA on July 22, 1928, he was the son of the late Stuart and Malinda Long Cornett.

Don honorably served his country in the U. S. Army, a commitment he carried with pride throughout his life. Following his military service, he dedicated many years to public service as a security officer for the federal government. A longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Elkton, Don found strength in his faith and fellowship. In his leisure time, he enjoyed the game of golf. Whether out on the course with friends or watching from home, golf brought him joy and relaxation. Don will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his brother, Bill Cornett; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Doris Jeanne Leonard Cornett; and his siblings, Lillie Parks, Carl Cornett, Claude Cornett, Pauline Wright, Anna Mae Russell, Mary Corriston, Lucia Cornett, Pearl Hash, Grover Cornett, Wayne Cornett, Estel Cornett, and Ora Lee Anderson.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM, Thursday, May 1, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Elkton, 607 Delaware Avenue, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Interment with Military Honors will be in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, Elkton, MD.
