James Curry Bowlsbey, Jr., 87, of Elkton, MD passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023. Born in Elkton on June 5, 1936, he was the son of the late James Curry Sr. and Edith May Castelow Bowlsbey.

A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Bowlsbey retired as a mason, and he had previously worked for Vannoys and J.W. Walker. He enjoyed fixing things in his spare time.

Survivors include his children James C. Bowlsbey, III (JoAnn), Airville, PA, Samuel A. Bowlsbey (Kim), Steven L. Bowlsbey (Angela), all of Elkton, MD, Mary A. Wassmer, Earleville, MD; grandchildren, James Bowlsbey, IV (Ashley), Shane Bowlsbey, Samuel Bowlsbey, Jr., Evan Bowlsbey (Daniele), Matthew Bowles, Sarah Bowles, Rachel Merendino (Andrew), Kris Wassmer (Cassie), Jenny Dant (Nate); great-grandchildren, Elliott, Brynnlee, Bohdi, Zoey, Allyssa, Reign, Avery; siblings, Alice Reynolds, Joe Bowlsbey (Pat), all of Rising Sun, MD.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Dorothy Elaine Nickle Bowlsbey; siblings, May, Bob and Harold.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be in Union Cemetery.
