Obituary

Helen King Spence, 71, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Born in Wilmington, DE on September 10, 1954, she was the daughter of the late J. Robert and Beryl W. King.

Helen was passionate about music. She was a member of UD Schola Cantorum, Chesapeake Silver Cornet Brass Band and the UD OLLI Concert Band. Helen was also a devoted member of the Episcopal Church. She served as the Vice President of the Diocesan Council of the Episcopal Diocese of Delaware. Helen also served as the President of the Standing Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia.

Survivors include her loving husband of 49 years; Stanley P. Spence, children; Robert P. Spence (Melissa), Orlando, Fl and Gregory M. Spence (Katsy) Gilbert, AZ, grandchildren; John Paul Spence, Anya Chanel Spence, Lennyn Aria Spence, and Xavier Michael Spence, and siblings; Beverly King, Columbus, OH, Margaret Zeller, Columbus, OH, and Barbara Buckingham (Richard), Newark, DE.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM, Friday, August 21, 2026, at St. Thomas’s Episcopal Church, 276 S College Ave, Newark, DE 19711. Interment will be private at St. Thomas’s Episcopal Church Cemetery.
