Harvey M. "Pepsi" Steele
Harvey Miller Steele, age 90, of Elkton, MD, died Friday, May 27, 2011. Born in Providence, MD, on March 16, 1921, he was the son of the late James and Minnie Feehley Steele.
Known to his family and friends as "Pepsi", Mr. Steele was a longtime resident of Fair Hill, MD. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a Bronze Star recipient. He was a minor league baseball player who once had a tryout with the Philadelphia Phillies, was an avid fan of both the Philadelphia Phillies and Baltimore Orioles and for many years was involved with Elkton Little League. Mr. Steele was a foreman with Chrysler Corporation, Newark, DE, retiring after 35 years. He was a member of Rock Presbyterian Church and enjoyed traveling and doing yard work.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Ruth E. Steele; daughter, Jarrett Herron and husband, Ronald, Powells Point, NC; son, Randy Steele and companion, Wendy Ragolia, Perryville, MD; granddaughters, Janice Skoglin and husband, Carl, Frederick, MD, and Michelle Sunkler and husband, Heiko, Kitty Hawk, NC; and a great-grandson, Ronnie Sunkler.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Steele was preceded in death by his brothers, Stanley Steele and Francis Scott Steele.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, June 3, 2011 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton St., Elkton, MD 21921, where visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m.
