Francis Lee Ulmer, 94, of Elkton, MD passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024. Born in Wilmington, DE on April 7, 1930, he was the son of the late Frank and Luilla Gamble Ulmer.
A lifelong resident of Elkton, Francis proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his military service, he built a career as a lab technician at DuPont Stine-Haskell Research Center in Newark, DE, from which he retired after many years of dedicated service. Outside of his professional life, Francis was a man of many interests and talents. He had been a member of the American Legion Cecil Post 15, and a life member of the Elkton Moose Lodge #851, where he shared camaraderie with his fellow lodge members. An avid hunter, he enjoyed the outdoors and cherished time spent in nature. Also, a skilled woodworker, Francis was known for his craftsmanship and ability to fix just about anything. His family and friends knew him as a true "jack of all trades" who could always be counted on for help. His contributions to local organizations and his unwavering commitment to his loved ones will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his children, Frances Knapp of Columbus, OH, Irving Sadler of Lincoln, DE, Marion Bell (Cleve) of Chesapeake City, MD, Linda Gillis, Michael Sadler Sr., Lisa Holmes (David), Theresa Hilaman (Robert), Tammy Davis (John), and Daniel Ulmer (Judy), all of Elkton, MD; 27 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Clarence Ulmer, Carol Rash, Barbara Stigile, and Charles Ulmer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Irene Ulmer; daughter, Virginia Tweed; grandchildren, Troy Sadler, Jessica Hilaman, Michael Sadler Jr. and John Tweed, Jr.; great-grandson, Zachary Lowe; and brother, Elwood Ulmer.
Funeral service will be held 1 PM, Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 12 PM. Interment with Military Honors will be in Cherry Hill Methodist Cemetery, Cherry Hill, MD.
