Elaine Sheldon, age 87, of Elkton, MD, passed away Monday, July 22, 2024, surrounded by her loving daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Born in Elkton on March 20, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Francis "Price" Blackson and Eleanor "Honey" Driebelbis Blackson.
Mrs. Sheldon grew up in the Leeds / Cherry Hill area and attended the Old Leeds School and Elkton High School. Elaine married the love of her life, Ernest "Ernie" Sheldon, and together they celebrated 66 wonderful years of marriage before his passing on January 9, 2022. An avid bowler, Elaine participated in the National Bowling Tournament with her family and friends, showcasing her talent and passion for the sport. She was a devoted homemaker, creating a warm and loving environment for her three daughters. She also contributed to her community through her work at the Elk Lanes Bowling Alley, Elkton, MD and Newark Newstand, Newark, DE.
A devout member of Cherry Hill Church for over 60 years, Elaine's faith was an integral part of her life. Her church family was a source of comfort and joy throughout her years.
Elaine loved spending quality time with her family, attending and enthusiastically supporting her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events. Her home was a central gathering spot for the entire family, many of whom referred to her as "Meemers." She was a dedicated and loyal Baltimore Orioles fan, always cheering on her favorite team.
Survivors include her daughters; Jean Hall (Marty), Sue Weaver (Mike), and Candy Magaw (Martin), all of Elkton, MD, grandchildren; Jennifer Steczak, Christy Goldsmith, Gunnar Bolton, Mackenzie Bolton, Abby Magaw and Hunter Magaw, great-grandchildren; Reagan Goldsmith, Carter Goldsmith, Ashlyn McBride, Wyatt Steczak, Graysen Steczak, Ava McBride and Stella McBride, and her faithful feline pal, Buster.
Funeral service will be held 2:30 PM, Monday, July 29, 2024, at Hicks Home for Funerals, P.A., 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will be held in Cherry Hill Methodist Cemetery, Elkton, MD.
The family would like to thank the staff of Amedisys Hospice and give a special thank you to her caregiver, Tamiah, for all the love and support provided.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cecil County Animal Services, or to Cherry Hill Church-Harlan House, in care of Hicks Home for Funerals, P.A., at the above address.
