Eileen Marie Friel, a devoted educator, loving mother and grandmother, and generous servant to her community, passed away on January 11, 2026. She was 58.

Born on September 18, 1967, in Chester, Pennsylvania, Eileen spent most of her adult life in Elkton, Maryland, where she built a life defined by care for others, commitment to education, and deep family devotion.

Eileen dedicated her professional life to children and to those who teach them. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Salisbury University and a master's degree in education from Towson University. Over the course of her career, she held both teaching and administrative roles in Cecil County and Harford County, Maryland. For the past 15 years, Eileen served the Havre de Grace Elementary School community, most recently teaching third grade, where her patience, warmth, and high standards left a lasting impression on students, families, and colleagues alike. She was not only a teacher of children, but a mentor to fellow educators and a trusted presence within the school community.

Above all, Eileen was a devoted mother to her daughter, Madison Marie Willis, and a proud grandmother to Brooks Parker Willis, both brought her immense joy and purpose. She is survived by Madison and her husband Ryan Willis, and by her beloved grandson Brooks. She is also survived by her mother, Eleanor Jane Friel; her brother R. Patrick Friel, his wife Elizabeth, and their daughter Eliza Morgan; her brother John Francis Friel III, his wife Frances, and their children Johnny and Emily.

She was preceded in death by her father, John (Jack) Francis Friel, Jr.

Eileen found happiness in simple pleasures: time at the beach, cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles, and listening to the music of Jimmy Buffett; things that reflected her love of warmth, optimism, and togetherness.

Memorial service will be held 3:30 PM, Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD  21921, with visitation beginning at 2 PM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ocean Conservancy or the Turtle Hospital.
