Edward Francis Cooney, 78, of Elkton, MD passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026. Born in Philadelphia, PA on December 1, 1947, he was the son of the late John J. Cooney, Jr. and Mary Byrne Cooney.

Ed served proudly as a Hospital Corpsman in the US Navy from 1966 to 1970. When he returned from his military service in Vietnam, Ed undertook a career in nursing, first in the Intensive Care Unit of Crozier Chester Medical Center, and then in other settings. Ed was an avid fisherman and, as such, was always looking for a new boat. Ed was also a life member of the VFW, Elkton Post 8175.

Survivors include his sister-in-law; Mary Machovec Cooney, and his nieces and nephews; Cathy, John, Colin, and Jessica. Ed was also survived by a wide circle of friends who were blessed to know him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife; Dawn Turner, and brothers; John and James.

Services and interment will be private.
