Dorothy Lorraine Austin Gregg, 83, of Elkton, MD passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Born in Baltimore, MD on July 7, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Beatrice Schaefer Austin.

Dorothy dedicated 30 years as an elementary school teacher and librarian at Rising Sun Elementary School, where she made a lasting impact on countless students and fostered a deep love of reading in their hearts. Her passion for inspiring others to read and grow in knowledge remained a guiding force throughout her life. Dorothy was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Chapter 27 in Havre de Grace, MD, and Chapter 84 in Elkton, MD. She was also the past president of the Maryland Federated Women's Club, where she worked tirelessly to support women's causes and strengthen her local community. Dorothy loved traveling and gardening. Whether exploring new places or tending to her flowers and plants, she found joy in the beauty of the world around her. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose laughter and love brought her immeasurable happiness. Dorothy will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and the countless individuals who were fortunate enough to know her.

Survivors include her children, Charles "Chuck" Gregg (Linda), Chesapeake City, MD, Christine Carr (Clyde Jr.), Lincoln University, PA, and Douglas Gregg, Nottingham, MD; grandchildren, Alexandrea Austin, Annemarie Hartbauer, Allison Carr, Connor Carr, and Sarah Carr; great-grandchildren, Kameron Hartbauer and Clarissa Hartbauer; and her sisters, Betty Spencer, The Villages, FL, and Ruth Ann Chenoweth, Weare, NH.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Melvyn Gregg; and her sister, Mary Louise "Squiz" Sine.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be in Rosebank Cemetery, Rising Sun, MD.
