Derek Benson Smith, 42, of Elkton, MD passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026. Born in Elkton, MD on August 16, 1983, he was the son of Brenda White Jones and the late Clarence Benson Smith.

Derek was a dedicated, hardworking owner and operator of Our Little Country Store, Elkton, MD. Outside of his business, he also enjoyed working construction on bridges. Derek enjoyed cheering on the Steelers, spending time outdoors, camping, fishing, or boating and could fix anything you put in front of him. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his friends and family, especially his beloved children who meant the world to him.

Survivors include his significate other of 6 years; Andrea Hodge Smith, children; Kenslea Smith, Baltimore, MD and Jaxon Smith, Elkton, MD, sister; Amanda Butler, Naples, Fl, grandmothers; Joy Smith and Ethel White and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother; Christopher Butler.

Celebration of life will be held 2 PM, Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Jones Residence, 154 Dogwood Road, Elkton, MD 21921.
