David Eugene Blankenship, 63, of Elkton, MD passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026. Born in Baltimore, MD on February 24, 1963, he was the son of Joan Collins Blankenship and the late Clyde L. Blankenship.
Mr. Blakenship spent his career as a dedicated truck driver, a path that reflected his strong work ethic and independent spirit. He found happiness outdoors, especially four-wheeling and camping in the mountains of West Virginia. At home, he loved spending time with his loyal K-9 companion, Brody, often found throwing a ball and enjoying their special bond. Mr. Blankenship treasured time with his family. He was known for his sense of humor, his easygoing nature, and his ability to make others laugh. His presence brought warmth and joy to those around him.
Survivors include his children; Chet Adkins (Lindsay), Florida, David Adkins (Cindy), Middletown, DE, Michele Derrickson (Dave), Newark, DE, Jeffery Burnett (Annalisa), Elkton, MD, grandchildren; Charm, Lily, Jessica, Olivia, Breann, Evan, Logan and Arlo, several great-grandchildren; siblings; George T. Collins (Deborah), Princeton, WV, Sampy L. Blankenship (Patricia) Princeton, WV, Sheila A. Hill (Mark), Elkton, MD, Pamela Dotson (Ronnie), Elkton, MD, and numerous nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to him as Day-yay.
Visitation will be held 5-7 PM, Monday, March 30, 2026 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921. Funeral service will be held 10 AM, Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Hicks Home for Funerals. Interment will be in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association. In care of Hicks Home for Funerals at the above listed address.
