Clarence "Ed"
Edward Ward, Jr
November 1, 1939 – July 26, 2022
Clarence Edward Ward Jr., "Ed", 82, passed away peacefully at his residence in New Castle, DE. on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.
He was predeceased by his parents Clarence E. Ward Sr. and Jennie Kramark Ward.
Mr. Ward is survived by his husband of 48 years, Thomas W. Tear of New Castle, DE., his sister Betty J. Sheppard; niece, Jennifer Monroe; two great nieces and two great nephews, all of Lancaster PA., several cousins and numerous friends.
Ed was born in Elkton, MD on November 1, 1939. His lifelong dream was to become a Maryland state trooper. After finishing high school, he was too young to apply, so he attended Goldey Beacom College, graduating with a degree in accounting.
After completing college, Ed applied to the MD. State Police. Alas, at 5'9 ¾" he was one quarter inch too short to join the Maryland force, so he became a City of Newark police officer where he served proudly from 1960 until 1968. Following his departure from the Newark Police force, he joined Wilmington Tire and Rubber Company as an accountant. He eventually went to work for Kirkwood Tires, retiring as an owner in 2008.
Ed was also known as "Mr. Wonderful" or "the Bear". He had a lifelong love of fine cars and boats and enjoyed nothing more than a long drive in the country and the occasional road trip. He also enjoyed socializing and dining out at his favorite spots with his family and friends.
Visitation begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 13 th at Immanuel Episcopal Church on the Green, 50 Market Street, Old New Castle, where funeral service will commence at 12:00. A brief reception will follow. Burial will be private.
