Claire Marie Layton, 74, of Elkton, MD passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026. Born in Wilmington, Delaware on February 15, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Alfonse and Angeline Vari Simeone.

Claire retired as a building inspection underwriter for BIU in Newark, Delaware, after many years of dedicated service. She enjoyed dancing the jitterbug, listening to live music, boating, trips to Ocean City, MD and, most of all, spending cherished time with her grandchildren. Claire was an amazing cook, she was especially known for her meatballs, which brought family and friends together time and again. She was a caring and devoted friend, grandmother, and mother, and was especially proud of her three sons. Claire was known for her positive spirit, unwavering support, and deep faith.

Survivors include her companion of 17 years; Carl Golt, children; Christopher Layton (Genevieve), Charlotte, NC, Timothy Layton (Lindsey), Parsonsburg, MD, and Tyler Layton, Ocean City, MD; grandchildren; Avery and Parker Layton, and siblings, Janice Malloy, Wilmington, DE, Marianne Mihaly, Wilmington, NC, Francis Simeone, Millsboro, DE, and Anthony Simeone, Raleigh, NC.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother; Alfonse "Al" Simeone.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, Friday, February 13, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Church, 454 Bow Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 9 AM in the Church Chapel. Interment will be private.
