Obituary

Charles "Harry" William Brown, 100, of Elkton, MD, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024. Born in Elkton on April 16, 1924, he was the son of the late Alexander A. and Irene A. Thompson Mayer.

Mr. Brown retired from RMR Corporation as a supervisor and spent many years thereafter working at American Home & Hardware. Mr. Brown was an honorably discharged veteran of WWII, having joined the Army Air Corp in 1943, then serving in the Pacific campaign, and being one of the first regiments to disarm Japan after their surrender. Mr. Brown was a lifelong resident of Elkton and an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and all-around mechanic. Having been raised on a farm in Elk Neck by his grandparents, Charles Jessup and Mary Elizabeth Snider Thompson, he learned to appreciate nature and survive off the land. He was devoted to his family and loved being with all his children, 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his sons, Harry C. Brown (Donna), Earleville, MD, Clinton H. Brown (Ginny), Adamstown, MD, Thomas M. Brown (Bert), Middletown, DE, Robert A. Brown (Vanessa), and Peter L. Brown (Nancy), both of Elkton, MD; grandchildren, Karyn Snider Rees (Rick), Christopher Snider (Megan), Josh Brown, Zach Brown (Jacqui), Christyann Brown Cushwa (Mike), Jeremy Brown (Kaitlin), Lee Shipley, John Novais (Julie), Brian Spires (Sharmain), James Golden (Christina), Michael Golden (Deborah), Robert Golden (Jessica), Trevor Golden, Sean Brown (Katie), Brandon Brown (Kimberly), Benjamin Brown (Lauren), Erin Brown-Griffith (Matt), Matthew Brown, and Amanda Brown; great-grandchildren, Sydney Rees, Nathan Rees, Dylan Rees, Kaleigh Snider Ernenwein (Zach), Cameron Snider, Aslan Snider, Carcenia Brown, Raegan Brown, Ian Brown, Colin Brown, Sam Cushwa, Sadie Cushwa, Nate Cushwa, Lilly Brown, Vivian Brown, Tyler Brown, Kylie Golden, Evelyn Golden, Haley Golden, Lucas Golden, Chloe Golden, Eleanor Brown, Penny Brown, Jackson Brown, Finley Brown, Luke Brown, Liam Brown, Cole Brown, Cooper Brown, Blair Brown, Jayren Griffith, Antonio Padavoni, and Macy Brown; great-great-grandchildren, Claire Ernenwein and Charles Ernenwein.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Adele Marie Reynolds Brown; his daughter, Diane Arleen Brown Snider; and all his aunts and uncles from the Brown/Thompson family.

At the request of the family, funeral service and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Elkton United Methodist Church at 219 E. Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921.
