Charles M. Dennis, Jr., a man of extraordinary strength, fierce devotion, and vibrant spirit, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. Proud of his rich Ukrainian heritage and unwavering in his integrity, Charles spent nearly his entire life in his beloved hometown of Elkton, Maryland, where he built a legacy rooted in hard work, loyalty, and service.

Above all his achievements, Charles’s greatest devotion was to his wife of 56 years, Pamela J. Dennis, who preceded him in death in December 2024. For more than two decades, he selflessly served as her primary caretaker, embodying a depth of love and commitment that defined their life together. Charles carried that same spirit into every relationship, stepping forward to help his community and offering steadfast, unconditional support to friends with the loyalty reserved for family.

A true embodiment of the “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” ethos, Charles was fearlessly ambitious and possessed a can‑do attitude that shaped everything he pursued. No project was too daunting, no challenge too complex; he met each one with determination and confidence.

Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring as a Master Sergeant after more than 20 years of dedicated service, including time spent in Korea and a combat tour in Vietnam. A significant portion of his career was spent shaping the future of the armed forces through his work in recruiting. After retiring from active duty, he continued his public service as an Army civilian at Edgewood Arsenal, working as a chemical munition’s mechanic until his second retirement.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Charles was a man of solid character, sharp humor, and an infectious zest for life. He possessed a rare blend of physical discipline and creative artistry. A black belt in karate, he approached every endeavor with focus and resolve. His craftsmanship was widely admired—he welded a heavy‑duty wood splitter that became legendary among neighbors and friends, who frequently borrowed it. As a skilled leather artisan, he spent countless hours crafting custom purses, belts, and gun holsters with meticulous care and pride.

Charles was the happiest outdoors, embracing life’s simple pleasures. Whether riding his motorcycles, navigating local waters on his boats, spending early mornings crabbing, tinkering with equipment, riding the Bobcat around the farm, or tending to his garden, he lived life fully and joyfully. Above all, he cherished his family farm on Frenchtown Road—a place that held his heart and served as the backdrop for decades of treasured memories.

Charles is survived by his children: Catherine C. Smith (Wesley Sr.), Charles M. Dennis III (Amanda), and Richard A. Dennis (Angela); and from his first marriage, Theresa M. Dennis (with Mary Dennis). He leaves behind a proud legacy in his beloved grandchildren: Kristen Dennis, Ryan Dennis, Jacob Dennis(Richard); Wesley R. Smith, Jr. (Catherine); and Charlee M. Dennis (Charles III), along with an extended circle of family and friends who will forever carry his memory.

Celebration of life and services will be held in Cecil County, Maryland at end of Summer/early Fall.
