Obituary

Charles Clark "Charlie" Campbell, 91, of Elkton, MD passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024. Born in Elkton on January 25, 1933, he was the son of the late Andrew and Gertrude McCarns Campbell.

Charlie retired as a Production Manager after 37 years from Thiokol Chemical Corporation. After retirement in 1993, he became a part-time painter, and tended to his lawn which was his pride and joy. Charlie was an active, long-time member of the Elkton United Methodist Church, where he served on many committees (sometimes twice), served many church dinners, helped maintained the church and was an usher at the 11 AM service, always greeting everyone with a warm smile and his famous hugs. He was also a member of the United Methodist Men and was on their bowling team, and the Thiokol league team.

Charlie was an avid golfer in his younger years. He took great pride in being a member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge #25, A.F. & A. M., Newark, DE, where he served as Past Worshipable Master in 1999. Charlie was also a member of the Elkton Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, where he served as treasurer.

Survivors include his daughters, Carol Gregson, Clovis, NM, and Kathryn Hansen (Alan), Newark, DE; grandchildren, Eric Gregson (Alexis), Anna Doerflein (Jay), Alyson Mortimer, Elizabeth Mortimer and Patrick Mortimer; great-grandchildren, Eric Gregson, Jr. (Traci), Nicholas Gregson, Skylar Gregson, Kylie Doerflein, and Kolton Doerflein.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Marjorie Biddle Campbell; and siblings, Dorothy Good, William Campbell, and Clifton Campbell.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM, Friday, February 23, 2024, at Hicks Home for Funerals, P.A.,103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921. Visitation will be Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 6 PM - 8 PM, and also Friday, February 23, 2024 at 10 AM. Interment will be private in Elkton Cemetery.

The family would like to thank his wonderful team of physicians, Dr. Steven Breslow, Dr. Christopher Bowens, Dr. Collette Mehring and Dr. Justin Sausville, for always treating Charlie with kindness, respect, and dignity. They would also like to thank Amedisys Hospice of Cecil County and Compassionate Care of Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Elkton United Methodist Church, or to Amedisys Hospice of Cecil County, in care of Hicks Home for Funerals at the above address.
